learn to cook in the Lake District
LucyCooks has a creative cooking space that is second to none - light and airy with plenty of visibility. Designed to be practical and very 'user friendly' without being too fussy – nor will it make you think that you are back at school!
The practical kitchens...
Upstairs, the fully practical kitchen area is fully equipped to accommodate up to 24 guests, including space for those with particular needs. The cookers have been sourced from Neff offering a choice of either gas, electric or induction hobs, fabulous kitchen cupboards and worktops are from English Hardwood Designs, and utensils from Lakeland. There are lots of interesting, alternative styles of pots and pans, gadgets and gizmos and some wonderful Swedish bespoke cupboards from Ella's Kitchen Company – you'll long to replicate everything in your own kitchen!
The kitchens are organised in such a way that four people share a kitchen with a maximum of two either side, each with their own set of utensils and equipment, sharing a sink and cooker for sociable creation and conversation! The only thing that is 'non domestic' is the extraction – however, even that looks stylish and shiny!
The Aga Kitchen...
The Aga demonstration area is one we are particularly proud to have. Lots of people buy Agas without knowing how best to use them and now even more 'inherit' them when they buy a house – other than to air the washing, revive a wet dog and warm your hands – now you can touch it, feel it, experience it and cook on and in it rather than just looking at it! We run both small practical Aga courses as well as demonstrations. Our Aga days can be run to suit yourselves … so do ask about creating a day especially for you!
The Terrace...
At the back of the Aga Room lies a beautiful wooden terrace with the River Kent running alongside it … if you look hard enough, you might spy the kingfisher who has made the space under the terrace his home. On sunny evenings and during the day it is possible to enjoy dining outside, or certainly to take in the fresh air, glass in hand!
The creation...
We employed the services of a team of local craftsmen and women – from plumbers to plasterers, kitchen designers to gardeners, blacksmiths to wood turners and electricians to stonemasons … We feel sure that you’ll agree they have certainly made ‘our dream their reality’. There hasn’t been a single person that could have worked harder if we had beaten them! It just goes to show that we can ‘source’ everything locally – both edible and non consumable!
