A Taste of Cumbria

Cumbrian Food

£145

Daytime Practical Course

Cumbria's cuisine is a fusion of hearty dishes for the hardworking hill communities and wonderfully spiced and rum-ladened delights that owe their creation to the region's associations with the spice and rum trades and the prominent role that Whitehaven played in the county's past. These factors combined give us foods that thrill and every reason to want to eat our glorious landscape, whether we choose to use our uniquely flavoured Herdwick lamb, our fabulous Cumberland Rum Nicky or some of the divine cheeses for which our local producers are becoming renowned. Gingerbread, venison, Cumberland sausage - we have it all and are passionate about sharing it, so book on to this course and you will discover how to cook at least some of our portfolio of produce.

DISHES YOU MAY BE CREATING

Smoked haddock with Cumbrian rarebit
Spice Traders Lamb
Home made Cumbrian pork pies
with spiced relish
Cumbrian Ale Bread
Westmorland Pepper Cake

DURING YOUR DAY:

Our one day courses are designed to be fun hands-on and interactive – whatever your age, experience, or ability.

Arrive at 9.30 and enjoy coffee and a morning snack in the ‘Bubbling Beck’ riverside room…. Meet and chat with those also enjoying a relaxing and informative day at LucyCooks. You will get to meet your chef for the day who will do a short introduction to LucyCooks and let you know the format for your day ahead.

Around 10.00am move upstairs to the fully practical kitchen area – where you will be directed to one of our delightful galley kitchens, each one of which is fully equipped to your specific requirements, with a choice of gas, electric or induction hobs. There are also facilities for those with disabilities and children of varying ages.

Your fully practical course will start with a demonstration by your chef. You will then return to your kitchen, copy what they have shown you and start cooking…..

Lunch is a social affair back in the BubblingBeck… something light and delicious accompanied by a glass of wine.

The Afternoon session is some more watching, learning and doing, with a refreshment break somewhere along the way. By the time you have finished at around 4.00pm, you will have hopefully picked up a few tips and enjoyed a break from your regular routine.

We don’t profess to send you out with a diploma on kitchen management and culinary skills, but you will leave with a variety of new skills and inspiration. You will be able to enjoy the fruits of your labours back in the comfort of your own home and be proud of what you have achieved as you get to take all of your goodies home at the end of the day.
