French Food

Daytime Practical Course

The food of every region of this vast country is associated with love and passion and oozes with flavour – it’s not the ingredients that make you fat, it’s the amount you eat! On the Taste of France day, you will have more than a soupcon of inspiration bestowed upon you when we tackle a variety of dishes as well as some techniques in producing these dishes. We will challenge to make the classic Fisherman’s soup, together with a couple of provincial main course dishes and of course one of their irresistible desserts. This is la vrai chose for those interested in having just a little taste of what this wonderful country can offer us.

Dishes you may be creating:

Cheese brioche
Red Onion, Fennel and Chilli Tarte Tatin
Mackerel Rillettes
Poulet de Gascon
Tarte au Citron

DURING YOUR DAY:
Our one day courses are designed to be fun hands-on and interactive – whatever your age, experience, or ability.

Arrive at 9.30 and enjoy coffee and a morning snack in the ‘Bubbling Beck’ riverside room…. Meet and chat with those also enjoying a relaxing and informative day at LucyCooks. You will get to meet your chef for the day who will do a short introduction to LucyCooks and let you know the format for your day ahead.

Around 10.00am move upstairs to the fully practical kitchen area – where you will be directed to one of our delightful galley kitchens, each one of which is fully equipped to your specific requirements, with a choice of gas, electric or induction hobs. There are also facilities for those with disabilities and children of varying ages.

Your fully practical course will start with a demonstration by your chef. You will then return to your kitchen, copy what they have shown you and start cooking…..

Lunch is a social affair back in the BubblingBeck… something light and delicious accompanied by a glass of wine.

The Afternoon session is some more watching, learning and doing, with a refreshment break somewhere along the way. By the time you have finished at around 4.00pm, you will have hopefully picked up a few tips and enjoyed a break from your regular routine.

We don’t profess to send you out with a diploma on kitchen management and culinary skills, but you will leave with a variety of new skills and inspiration. You will be able to enjoy the fruits of your labours back in the comfort of your own home and be proud of what you have achieved as you get to take all of your goodies home at the end of the day.
