Gluten Free Food
Daytime Practical Course
This is the perfect course whether you’re a seasoned gluten free cook or have just discovered that you have to follow a diet without gluten. Bread, pastry and cakes are the things we miss the most (or potentially would if we didn’t have the opportunity to rethink our creativity) … so join us for a journey to discover that food without gluten is not food without taste.
Dishes you may be creating:
Bread is something that all those with an intolerance to gluten miss the most … however, in our gluten free course here at LucyCooks you will be introduced to the perfect way to make delicious bread and enjoy creating Brown and White bread with various flavourings and additions to enhance the interest.
Quiche is a wonderful lunchtime or supperdish and perfect to take to work or on a picnic – sadly for most of us intolerant to gluten pastry is a real no-no – unless of course you come to LucyCooks and make our gluten free pastry – light as a feather and very delicious. The basis for a very tasty quiche – but equally good for pies and puddings (you’ll be given lots of hints and tips about recreating pastry dishes using this failsafe method)
Chocolate Almond Torte – not for the faint hearted, but a real chocolate lover’s dream and has so many variations as to whether it’s served as a cake or a dessert - delicious with a lime cream to cut through the richness or the perfect birthday cake.
Sticky Toffee Pudding – everyone’s favourite and just because you can’t have gluten doesn’t mean you need to miss out on this classic Cumbrian dessert – light, flavoursome and packed with all things good!
Whitehaven Wags – A variation on the Cornish fairing, but using our wonderful Cumbrian spice history to indulge in making these tasty Ginger biscuits with a bit of a twist and a definite ‘ginger snap with a cracked top’ (and that’s just Janet who delivers this particular course!!)
DURING YOUR DAY:
Our one day courses are designed to be fun hands-on and interactive – whatever your age, experience, or ability.
Arrive at 10.00am and enjoy coffee and a morning snack in the ‘Bubbling Beck’ riverside room…. Meet and chat with those also enjoying a relaxing and informative day at LucyCooks. You will get to meet your chef for the day who will do a short introduction to LucyCooks and let you know the format for your day ahead.
Around 10.00am move upstairs to the fully practical kitchen area – where you will be directed to one of our delightful galley kitchens, each one of which is fully equipped to your specific requirements, with a choice of gas, electric or induction hobs. There are also facilities for those with disabilities and children of varying ages.
Your fully practical course will start with a demonstration by your chef. You will then return to your kitchen, copy what they have shown you and start cooking…..
Lunch is a social affair back in the BubblingBeck… something light and delicious accompanied by a glass of wine.
The Afternoon session is some more watching, learning and doing, with a refreshment break somewhere along the way. By the time you have finished at around 3.30pm, you will have hopefully picked up a few tips and enjoyed a break from your regular routine.
We don’t profess to send you out with a diploma on kitchen management and culinary skills, but you will leave with a variety of new skills and inspiration. You will be able to enjoy the fruits of your labours back in the comfort of your own home and be proud of what you have achieved as you get to take all of your goodies home at the end of the day.
