Mexican Food
Daytime Practical Course
Special Offer: Bring a "Cooking Buddy" for half price
In today’s world, most of what we perceive as authentic Mexican food is actually a blend of Mexican food that has been Americanized, usually starting around the southern border of Texas and Mexico. Refried beans are an example of “Tex-Mex” cuisine. The original Mexican dish is frijoles refritos, meaning “well-fried beans”, which is different than our version of the dish. Other “Tex-Mex” dishes include nachos, chimichangas, fajitas, and chili con carne. Most of these dishes were unseen in Mexico at all, and were products of restaurants around the border of Mexico producing new foods.
The Mexican people consider food one of the most important parts of their culture. It’s said that to learn one’s culture, you must first learn how they cook. Never bland and always interesting, Mexican food is a favorite all over the world and we can see why.
Join us here at LucyCooks for an introduction to Mexican cuisine sure to spice up your repertoire.
DURING YOUR DAY:
Our one day courses are designed to be fun hands-on and interactive – whatever your age, experience, or ability.
Arrive at 10.00am and enjoy coffee and a morning snack in the ‘Bubbling Beck’ riverside room…. Meet and chat with those also enjoying a relaxing and informative day at LucyCooks. You will get to meet your chef for the day who will do a short introduction to LucyCooks and let you know the format for your day ahead.
Around 10.15am move upstairs to the fully practical kitchen area – where you will be directed to one of our delightful galley kitchens, each one of which is fully equipped to your specific requirements, with a choice of gas, electric or induction hobs. There are also facilities for those with disabilities and children of varying ages.
Your fully practical course will start with a demonstration by your chef. You will then return to your kitchen, copy what they have shown you and start cooking…..
Lunch is a social affair back in the BubblingBeck… something light and delicious accompanied by a glass of wine.
The Afternoon session is some more watching, learning and doing, with a refreshment break somewhere along the way. By the time you have finished at around 4.00pm, you will have hopefully picked up a few tips and enjoyed a break from your regular routine.
We don’t profess to send you out with a diploma on kitchen management and culinary skills, but you will leave with a variety of new skills and inspiration. You will be able to enjoy the fruits of your labours back in the comfort of your own home and be proud of what you have achieved as you get to take all of your goodies home at the end of the day.
Please call for late availability bookings on this course.
